CIÚNAS – Tristan Heanue
About the film:
Written and directed by Tristan Heanue, Ciúnas (Silence) tells the story of a couple who embark on a journey amidst a family crisis. Shot on location across County Galway, locations include Kylemore, Inagh Valley, Tullycross, Connemara West as well as the filmmaker’s family farm in Derryinver, Letterfrack. It was the winner of the 2018 Físín Script Competition in association with Dingle International Film Festival. Since its release it has won over 15 awards both in Ireland and internationally including the ‘Grand Prix’ at the 64th Cork Film Festival and a Writers Guild Zebbie Award for ‘Short Script of the Year”. It was also nominated for an IFTA Award for Best Short Film and Tristan also received further nominations for The Bingham Ray New Talent award at the Galway Film Fleadh & The Discovery Award at the Dublin Film Festival.
About the Filmmaker:
Tristan Heanue is an award winning filmmaker from Connemara, Co. Galway. He began his career as an actor, featuring in various productions and most recently receiving an IFTA nomination for playing the lead role in Broken Law which is now streaming on Netflix. In 2013, he began writing and creating his own work. His debut film In This Place premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2014 and went on to play at numerous festivals both here and internationally. His second short film, and first as Director was titled Today. It premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2015 and won him the award for Best Debut Drama. He wrote & directed his third film A Break in the Clouds in 2017 which starred Gemma-Leah Deveraux. In 2019, he released Ciúnas (Silence) which was the winner of the 2018 Físín Script Award at the Dingle International Film Festival and stars Gary Lydon, Hazel Doupe & Ally Ní Chiaráin. It premiered at the 31st Galway Film Fleadh where he became the first short filmmaker to be nominated for the Bingham Ray New Talent Award. The film was nominated for an IFTA and went on to win the ‘Grand Prix Best Irish Short’ at the 64th Cork International Film Festival and Best Short Film at Belfast Film Festival. In November 2020, Tristan was awarded the Writers Guild of Ireland award for ‘Short film Script of the Year’ for Ciúnas. His new short film Harvest was the winner of the Kerry Screen Commission Bursary in 2019 and will premiere in 2021 starring Lalor Roddy, Marie Mullen, Gary Lydon and Brendan Conroy.
