Testimonials

The investment of Clare County Council in the WRAP Fund has brought significant economic and social benefits to the county. The success of productions such as Smother, which enjoyed three seasons in West Clare, has led to immediate spin-off effects in local businesses as well as long term benefits for tourism. The upskilling of local crew has attracted further productions, such as Darkwater, to the county with crew retention offering local people the opportunity to enjoy ongoing work in the film industry in Clare. Coupled with the investment in local companies such as Magpie Media animation company, and the development of crew and talent hubs, the West of Ireland now offers a viable alternative to shooting in the east of the country. At a community and local authority level we actively support the ongoing efforts to further enable and develop creative screen industries regionally.

Film is a driver for economic development in Donegal, and the value of a film being made in a small town in Donegal cannot be underestimated. A production like Obituary being filmed in a place like Ballyshannon or Bundoran allows businesses to keep their doors open that bit longer in the off-season. There are young people from the area being trained to work in the industry and locals employed as extras. The local spend that came off of God's Creatures, for example, was lifeblood for businesses coming out of lockdown. The development of the creative screen industries and investment at a regional level is a no brainer and must continue
