WRAP Fund backed TV Drama Smother as well as a host of West of Ireland talent are leading the charge at the 2022 Irish Film & TV Awards (IFTAs) with a wealth of nominations. Shot in Lahinch, Co. Clare, Smother has garnered 6 nominations including best drama and best script with Galway’s Dathaí Keane garnering a nomination for best director for his work on the international hit series.
In addition, the West of Ireland features heavily among the nominations with new television drama Hidden Assets, shot on location in the WRAP region’s county Clare, receiving 7 nominations and Irish language feature film Foscadh, produced by Galway’s Tua Films, and shot on location in Connemara picking up two nominations.
WRAP talent also appear strongly on the IFTA roll call including acting nominees Dónall Ó’Héalaí (Foscadh), Simone Kirby (Hidden Assets), Owen McDonnell (Three Families) and Amy-Joyce Hastings (Who We Love) alongside Neasa Ní Chianáin and David Rane (Young Plato), Hannah Quinn (Vikings: Valhalla), Narayan Van Maele (You Are Not My Mother), John Murphy (An Cailín Ciúin) and Linda Gannon (Foundation). Short films Harvest written and directed by Galwegian Tristan Heanue and The Passion written by and starring Frank Blake (Clare), directed by Mia Mullarkey (Galway) and produced by Roisín Geraghty (Mayo) are also in contention for best short film.
The spread of nominations shines a spotlight on the world class talent emanating from the WRAP region as well as the stunning locations and opportunities available for screen production in the WRAP counties of Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo.
