Galway Film Centre in association with the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, Screen Skills Ireland and Gréasán na Meán Skillnet and the assistance of the WRAP Fund is pleased to announce the return of the WRAP Script Mentorship Scheme for 2020 which has been expanded to include a Script Editor.

Now in its third cycle, the hugely successful scheme is open for aspiring screenwriters and script editors from the WRAP Region across feature film and television drama. Previous graduates of the mentorship have described it as “a perfect, unobtrusive, guiding but never prescriptive presence” and have cited the “quality of the mentors and their time and guidance” as a huge asset of the scheme.

What Is The Mentorship?

Three emerging Writers and one Script Editor will be selected to participate on the initiative. Each will receive an award of €500 and allotted contact time with highly experienced Script Editors/Mentors from the UK and Ireland focusing on the development process. The chosen Script Editor will shadow the Mentors across the three projects throughout the scheme and will take part in one on one sessions to enhance their skills. Bespoke workshops and networking opportunities will be arranged as part of the programme. The Mentorship aims to support the development of projects but also enhance the craft, industry knowledge and network of the participants to build their future careers.

Previous Mentors include industry experts Andrew Ellard (The IT Crowd, Red Dwarf), Oona O’ Beirn (The Crown), Arielle Gottlieb (Dublin Murders, Hooten & The Lady) Keith Potter (Rare Beasts, Room), Heather Browning (Dead Still, The South Westerlies) and Lucy Ryan (Dublin Old School).

Who Can Apply?

The scheme is aimed at talent (screenwriters and creatives interested in developing their skills in script development/editing) from and/or currently based in the WRAP* region counties of Clare, Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo. The scheme will endorse 50:50 gender equality, as well as encouraging diversity of voices and it also aims to nurture ideas generated and located in the region. Talents’ track records as well as the originality and boldness of the ideas submitted and the potential for development will be key criteria in selection of the candidates. Preference will be shown to potential Script Editors who have a proficiency in the Irish language.

Tá an Scéim rathúil um Meantóireacht Scripteanna ar ais agus í leathnaithe chun Scríbhneoirí Scripte agus Eagarthóirí Scripte a chur san áireamh an uair seo.

Tá ríméad ar Lárionad Scannánaíochta na Gaillimhe i gcomhar le hÚdarás Craolacháin na hÉireann, Screen Skills Ireland agus Gréasán na Meán Skillnet a fhógairt go bhfuil an Scéim Meantóireachta Scripteanna ar ais do 2020 agus í leathnaithe chun Eagarthóir Scripte a chur san áireamh. Is é seo an tríú sraith den scéim, a bhfuil an-rath uirthi, agus tá sí ar oscailt anois do scríbhneoirí scripte agus d’eagarthóirí scripte uaillmhianacha in earnáil na scannánaíochta agus na drámaíochta teilifíse. Rinne céimithe roimhe seo cur síos ar an meantóireacht mar “láithreacht atá foirfe, neamhfheiceálach agus treorach, ach gan bheith riamh saintreorach” agus tá tagairt déanta do “chaighdeán na meantóirí agus a gcuid ama agus treorach” bheith mar sheoid mhór na Scéime.

Cad atá i gceist leis an Meantóireacht?

Roghnófar triúr Scríbhneoirí agus aon Eagarthóir Scripte amháin chun páirt a ghlacadh sa tionscnamh. Gheobhaidh gach duine a roghnófar duais €500 agus am sonrach leagtha amach dóibh le hEagarthóirí/Meantóirí Scipte as an Ríocht Aontaithe agus as Éirinn, a bhfuil sárthaithí acu, chun díriú ar an bpróiseas forbartha. Déanfaidh an tEagarthóir Scripte a roghnófar na Meantóirí a leanúint thar thrí thionscadal le linn na scéime agus glacfaidh sé nó sí páirt i seisiúin duine le duine chun a scileanna a fheabhsú. Socrófar ceardlanna saincheaptha agus deiseanna líonraithe mar chuid den chlár. Tá sé mar aidhm ag an Meantóireacht tacú le forbairt na dtionscadal, ach ina theannta sin, cur le ceardaíocht na rannpháirtithe, leis an eolas atá acu ar an tionscal, agus lena ngréasán, chun cuidiú leo a ngairmeacha beatha a thógáil don todhchaí.

I measc na Meantóirí roimhe seo bhí Andrew Ellard (The IT Crowd, Red Dwarf), Oona O’Beirn (The Crown), Arielle Gottlieb (Dublin Murders, Hooten & The Lady), Keith Potter (Rare Beasts, Room), Heather Browning (Dead Still, The South Westerlies) agus Lucy Ryan (Dublin Old School).

Cé na daoine ar féidir leo iarratas a chur isteach?

Tá an scéim dírithe ar dhaoine cumasacha (scríbhneoirí agus daoine cruthaitheacha a bhfuil suim acu a scileanna a fhorbairt i bhforbairt/eagarthóireacht scripte) arb as agus/nó a bhfuil cónaí orthu faoi láthair i gcontaetha réigiún WRAP* – an Clár, Dún na nGall, Gaillimh, Maigh Eo, Ros Comáin agus Sligeach. Beidh an scéim ag moladh comhionannas inscne 50:50, chomh maith le héagsúlacht glórtha, agus beidh sí ag díriú ar smaointe a ghintear agus atá lonnaithe sa réigiún a chothú. Beidh an taithí atá léirithe ag na daoine cruthaitheacha, chomh maith le húrnuacht agus le dánacht na smaointe a chuirfear isteach, agus an acmhainneacht forbartha, mar phríomhchritéir um roghnú na n-iarrthóirí. Tabharfar tús áite d’ábhar Eagarthóirí Sripte a bhfuil inniúlacht sa Ghaeilge acu.
